Get Together For Palms Together Day 2018!

We’re excited to announce the launch of our first ever Palms Together Day; a day for Australians to celebrate the cultural diversity of their family, friends, workplaces and communities.

All too often, fear of the “other” divides us. We seem to worry that giving opportunity to others means losing opportunities for ourselves, rather than embracing the diversity that creates more opportunities for all.

On 20 May 2018, we’re calling on Australians to play their part in tackling this fear by hosting a Palms Together Day event at their home, workplace, school or community. Guests are encouraged to bring a dish from a culture they identify with, along with a small donation to Palms Australia.

Our Executive Director, Roger O’Halloran, hopes the day will encourage Australians to celebrate the rich diversity of cultures across the globe and strengthen their sense of connection with communities overseas.

“Whether it’s a handshake, a high-five, a prayer, or reaching out to give or receive, when we place our palms together we create a human connection. Palms Australia has been helping Australians bring their palms together to create this same human connection since 1961,” said Roger.

“Palms Australia works to achieve this solidarity between Australian and international communities. Through volunteering, cross-cultural awareness training, ethical immersion trips and community partnerships, we facilitate shared action to achieve just, sustainable, and peaceful development.”

By getting involved in Palms Together Day, you’ll be creating stronger connections to your own and others’ diverse cultural heritage.  Your donation will help Palms Australia to meet the requests of remote communities overseas for volunteers who can build skills that sustainably reduce poverty.
