Book launch
Nichole Georgeou’s research, conducted with the support of Palms Australia and UOW, into international development volunteering has been published as a hardcover book. “Neoliberalism, Development and Aid Volunteering” (2012, Routledge, New York) will be launched on 13th May in Melbourne and 17th May in Sydney.
Palms Encounters
This year, we have four Palms Encounters scheduled. Our new Palms Encounter: Kiribati (pp10-11) is scheduled to run in April and November this year.
Encounters to Timor-Leste will depart in July and September. Visit www.palms.org.au/encounters/ for more details and to reserve your space.
Re-entry Workshop
Palms will be holding a re-entry workshop in Sydney from Friday 22nd until Sunday 24th March.
This workshop is recommended for anyone who has returned from an overseas placement within the last two years. This workshop consistently earns praise as a tool for re-settling into Australian life and preparing oneself for whatever may come next. It is open to Palms’ participants and individuals from other organisations.
95th Orientation Course
We will be holding our 95th Orientation Course in Parramatta from September 27th until October 5th, 2013. Individuals interested in volunteering in 2014 are encouraged to apply soon to find out more.
Solidarity Awards
Following our terrific inaugural awards evening in 2013 featuring Palms’ Patron, Dr Jose Ramos Horta, we are proud to announce the second annual Solidarity Awards will be held on the afternoon of October 5th. Please mark this date in your calendar.
We are also accepting nominations for award recipients, so if there is an individual or organisation you believe epitomises solidarity, please email [email protected].
