Palms Poet – Little Children

Litte children –
Dark eyes
Ablaze smiles
Bare feet
Scabbed skin
Chasing the leaves
Lean and coloured
Each, with a loss
Never witnessed by the eye
For their joy is greater
Their laugh, louder
Their hope, stronger
Cat’s eye marbles
Rolling around in the red dirt
Sprinting between the cane toads
Slapping the flies
Pijin rhythms
Little angels –
Dark eyes
Ablaze smiles
